WCO-ONS 50/50 RAFFLE

The monies generated by the 50/50 raffle at our dinner programs in January, February and March this year were donated to The Dayton Food Bank. The April, May and June monies were used to send a teenager to an ostomy camp. Sponsored by the Greater Dayton Ostomy society, the teenager went to a camp in Colorado where they were able to spend time with other ostimates their own age.  Anyone who may be interested in donating to the worthy causes without participating in the raffle can contact any board member regarding the arrangements. Thanks for supporting your local community and its ongoing needs!

ONS FOUNDATION

$100 from our 50/50 raffle in September was donated by our chapter to the ONS Foundation. The ONS Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt, charitable organization established in 1981 to provide funding for oncology nursing education, research and leadership opportunities. Funding is provided through grants and scholarships to individual nurses and chapters. Some of these include the Bone Marrow Transplant Career Development Award, Pearl Moore Career Development Award, Connie Henke Yarbro Excellence in Cancer Nursing Mentorship Award and the Pat McCue/New Orleans Chapter End-of-Life Care Nursing Career Development Award. All of the scholarships and awards listed have been won by members of our chapter in the past.

WEST CENTRAL OHIO-ONCOLOGY NURSING SOCIETY (WCO-ONS) COMMUNITY OUTREACH

2009 PAN OHIO BIKE RIDE

The Pan Ohio Hope Ride takes cyclists from Cleveland to Cincinnati in a four-day bike tour through Ohio’s scenic countryside from July 30 - August 2, 2009. The cause supports access to care for those who must travel far from home to receive life-sustaining cancer treatment. Hope Lodge is a no-cost “home away from home” that provides a nurturing, supportive environment to those facing a battle with cancer away from home. A wide range of free patient services programs provide information; help with day-to-day needs, and emotional support for cancer patients and their families. The PAN OHIO bike ride benefits the American Cancer Society Hope Lodges. In August 2009, the West Central Ohio Oncology Nursing Society members joined with the Cincinnatti Tri-County Oncology Nursing Society members to man a water stop for the riders in Waynesville, Ohio. Pictures are members from both chapters including Barb Henry, Amy Voris, Marla Skoog Prues, Mary Murphy and Nancy Whitehill. To see more pictures of the event, go to our photo page.

WCO-ONS NOVEMBER PROGRAM TRADITION

WCO-ONS traditionally collects children's hats, mittens, and gloves at our November program for donation to the Mongomery County Children's Services. This picture shows our 2008 donations. Thank you WCO-ONS members!
