If you know any woman currently undergoing chemotherapy, please pass the word to her that there is a cleaning service that provides FREE housecleaning - once per month for 4 months while she is in treatment. All she has to do is sign up and have her doctor fax a note confirming the treatment. Cleaning for a Reason will have a participating maid service in her zip code area arrange for the service. This organization serves the entire USA and currently has 547 partners to help these women. It's our job to pass the word and let them know that there are people out there that care. Be a blessing to someone and pass this information along.

Jill Reese and I attended this extraordinary weekend event from July 15th through July 17th in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As one approached the meeting rooms in the Hyatt Hotel, the halls were lined with interesting and thought provoking canvases. Sponsored by Lilly Oncology, the display was a great place to think, reflect, and network.
The evening began with the Chapter and Sig awards dinner. Jill and I sat in our “region” with board members from other chapters across the Midwest, including Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. Hearing about other chapters was an interesting experience.
Saturday morning began with breakfast at 7:00. Alec Stone, lobbyist for the Oncology Nursing Society, gave an informative presentation on healthcare reform. It sounds as though there are many challenges for the future. Last year, Alec lobbied for physicians on Capitol Hill. In his opinion, lobbying for nurses will be quite different from lobbying for physicians.
Updates about ONS, ONS Foundation, ONS Edge, and OCCN were discussed. This fall, ONS is launching regional conferences on Primary Care and Survivorship. These conferences will begin with an evening keynote speaker followed by participant networking reception. A full day of sessions will occur the next day. Dates and locations for the conferences are on the ONS website: www.ons.org.
Break-out sessions were held on Saturday afternoon. Topics included social media, chapter finances, and diversity and cultural competence. A New Orleans themed dinner was held that evening, previewing the next ONS Congress to be held in New Orleans. After dinner, the lights dimmed and the line dancing began. Just in case you were wondering, Jill and I only watched the dancing J.
It was helpful talking with members of other chapters and listening to their successes and challenges. E-mails were exchanged. New friendships have begun.
